Project 52 - Week 4

Cleaning Persona

I've decided that for better and not for worse I clean like my mother. I think the reason is two fold: 1) She taught me how to clean a house & 2) We have similar personalities particularly as it relates to orderliness.

As I was cleaning today I was pondering if everyone else tends to clean like their mother because that was the way they were taught. Or if some might deviate from that method because it seemed either too rigorous and structured or too lenient (depending on the Mother & Daughter's personality).

If I was able to do everything exactly as I liked and I had the time to do it:
  • Mondays would be the day I clean the living room
  • Tuesdays would be for Bathrooms
  • Wednesdays would be Bedrooms
  • Fridays would be the kitchen.
All because that is how we cleaned the house when I was younger each week. I also generally follow the order in which my mom cleaned things - such as you always dust before you vacuum (although others would say the opposite as the vacuum stirs up dust). I always clean the tub first, then the toilet, then the mirror & sink. And so forth...

So this week I want some interaction. Tell me how the way you clean relates to how you learned. Are you like me and pretty much model what you were taught or did you go off the "straight & narrow" and make up your own routine?

Phew - made this post on time this week.

That's funny- I clean in the same order you do but I honestly never thought about the fact that is the way we were taught...its just what I do.

See it is so ingrained in your cleaning DNA that it's become a part of who you are. :-)

I have my own routine, not the same as my mom's. Growing up, she preferred to do almost all of the housework herself. I could have offered more of my time and help, but really, what kid is going to do that?! I am trying with my boys to let them be more involved with helping/cleaning around the house, because I do have the same tendency as her to just do it myself. We are also alike in the way that we keep very clean, tidy houses at all times. I just learned to do it after I was married.

My, that sounded more like airing dirty laundry than telling you which days I vacuum and dust:)

FWIW, Kel, I clean my bathrooms in the opposite order than you-mirror, sink, toilet, shower, then floor. And I can talk about laundry for hours. :)

Praying Kate's surgery goes well. Thinking of you and Graham. Sending lots of love from afar.

Ok, Jeff's comment is actually from brianne. Google has his name when I sign in to leave a comment. He does trash duty. :)
