39 week appointment

I met with the doctor today who hopefully will actually be able to deliver the baby. She's very much in-line with the midwife and I liked her a lot. It's also nice having someone there who can write prescriptions as I needed a refill on my prenatal. There really isn't anything exciting to report. Everything looks good and her head is way down although I still am carrying very high. She's kind of stretched out. I did find out the strange bump I was feeling was her heel. This practice doesn't do routine cervical checks until you go into labor - and even then they do very few (which is perfectly fine with me) so I have no clue as to my dilation/effacement.

Tonight we go to tour the hospital L&D and OB Units just in case we do end up there. I know in that case I'd be more comfortable already knowing the layout than just thrown into it.

I also found out today that our church is going to be setting up a nursing mothers room. It actually surprised me that they haven't had one until now, considering the size of the church. Up until this point mothers had used the area of the crib nursery where the babies sleep since it's secluded and dark but it's not exactly set up for nursing AND with the amount of new babies we have, I can see that area filling up very quickly. Also, you do get the occasional male back there, since they work in the nursery, so I'm guessing they are trying to give the ladies a place with a bit more privacy.

Where are you planning to have the baby? (You mentioned possibly ending up at the hospital L&D so I'm confused!)

My midwives don't do routine cervical checks either which I rather appreciate. :)

Well, checks from time to time may be good for some people. I know people who wouldn't have realized they were in preterm labor unless they had been checked. However, you are in no danger of that now. Hee Hee

The plan right now is the local birth center. They just suggest you tour the hospital right up the road in case they have to transfer you so you'll be familiar with the layout and procedures.

I'm not adverse to cervical checks - if warranted. Like in the case of multiples - when women are prone to dilating too soon and such. I just don't think they are necessary at the end just to see how far along you are.

Oh cool! I didn't know that. I hope it's a very good experience. I know I really loved our birth center and after that I actually hope to never give birth in a hospital again! (If I can help it- of course I will if necessary!)

And I 100% agree about the cervical checks.
