Hodgepodge

  1. I've recently started feeling Lulu (what we are currently calling her) kick and "tickle". She's upside down so I feel stronger movement toward my ribs and tickling sensations down on the "lower end". At first I didn't realize it was her moving as the kicks feel more like muscle twitches than what I imagined movement to feel like but the regularity of it has led me to believe it's the baby. I do go quite awhile without feeling anything but I'm not too concerned as she's still pretty small so it's harder for her to make her presence known.
  2. Saturday our neighborhood had a yard sale. I bought 5 outfits and 2 bibs (1 of which was a roo bib) for 8 dollars.
  3. I've started our registry at Babies R Us and was quite overwhelmed. When I returned the scanner to the front she handed me my registry along with a page of all the stuff I hadn't added. I was sure I had registered for a ton but it was only 6 pages. I will definitely have to go back and add the things I missed.
  4. I've been going to the Chiropractor for two weeks. I will be seeing him a LOT for the next few weeks and then will spread out as my body gets into better alignment. Thus far I think it is helping but the downside is he has limited me to "light" cleaning. My family will tell you I am neat/organization freak and this has seriously frustrated me. What I wouldn't give for a maid right now.
  5. Work is going well and I am so loving working PT. That being said I cannot wait until we going on our mini vacation in June. Between now and then Graham's sister is getting married. After the vacation Graham's two cousins (siblings) are both getting married within a one month time period! I bought this dress in green to wear to the weddings. The green is more vivid in person and seems to be fairly flattering to my figure or lack thereof.

Really pretty dress, Kelley. About clothes, babies need fewer than I thought. If I had it to do all over again I would not buy as many clothes before Kate was born. I had too many multiples of some things (lots of onesies), too few of some things (newborn dressier clothes for church -- and don't forget that they need something on their feet for a long time so go ahead and buy matching shoes or socks or booties for those cute outfits) and several things out of season (Either too warm by the time she finally grew into them or still too cool). It's easier to make judgments about what your baby needs after she is already here. You'll know her size and the weather! That said, I'm still probably buying her too many clothes, but little girl clothes are just tooooooo cute!

Oh, and bibs -- Kate doesn't really use any. . little Lulu may not need them either. :-) Until she's eating, that is.

I love the cute little nickname "Lulu!"

As for baby STUFF... We registered for way too much before I had Emily and we've ended up getting rid of a TON of it! I realized after having her (and especially after having Claire!) that I hardly needed anything!
Claire slept in a little bassinet by our bed with a simple sheet and blanket, she never ever has used a bottle (so never needed those) and she had all the clothes and blankets she needed from Emily. Aside from those basics all we needed was diapers and wipes! All set. :) I love simplicity so it was nice. We've hardly had to buy anything for her. (Not that we'd mind, but ya know...)

I think that less is better (well definitely easier- and space conscious) when it comes to babies. Claire hasn't even been in a stroller. I carry her in a baby carrier and I've liked that better than the stroller I used with Emily! And it takes up less room in the car. hehe

But goodness- when I look at the lists of "must haves for a new baby" that I've found here and there on the internet- it makes me laugh! A lot of it is definitely unnecessary.

It also depends a lot on baby- Claire never liked the swing or jumperoo or even very many toys so maybe she's just a simpler baby. We've put a lot of that stuff in storage or gotten rid of it since she wasn't into it. That and we don't have the room for it anyway... :-P

Love the green dress! Maternity clothes are so cute.

Elizabeth - I am trying my hardest to hold off on buying anything as I'm hoping for some lovely presents. The yard sale finds I couldn't pass up as they were in such good condition and a great price! :-) About the bibs - I'm more forward thinking than anything. The Roo bib was .25 and since Rachel recommended them I figured it would be great to have one on hand and again, who could pass up the price? Thanks for the tips - you've reinforced a lot of the things I was thinking but wasn't sure was accurate.

Rebecca - we so think alike! I too tend towards simplicity. That's why I was so surprised when they said I was missing so much as I felt like I has put a TON on there. I really hate clutter and feel like less is more so I'm trying to decide if I want to register for some things I'm not sure I'll need and then just return if I don't or just not register at all and then buy it later if needed.

Girls I really appreciate all this advice. It is priceless.

Well, you've already heard most of it from Elizabeth and Rebecca, but I will add my part as well. On clothes, you'll probably get tons at showers and you'll know more what you need when she arrives. I registered for lots of "stuff" and "gear" and received a lot of it as I had several large showers and also received several group gifts. And we really used everything with Lydia. It does take up a lot of space when it is time to store it, but what can you do. Some babies really don't enjoy all that paraphernalia (sp?) that is out there. You won't know until she tries it. If you have questions about specific large $ items, just ask away. We all seem to enjoy putting in our 2 cents!
One thing I will highly recommend is Ultimate Crib Sheets. Babies R Us will have them. I have two and still use them on the crib. In fact, if you use those you need only 1 or 2 fitted sheets at MOST, just to cover the mattress. Oh - I also really love the baby bathtub we have (a Eurobath). It is huge and doesn't fold up and it doesn't include the little gadgets like a sprayer, but it worked at every stage until she was ready to sit in the tub safely with no support.
The dress is really cute! Do you have a tummy yet?

Jen - I have heard from more moms than I can count how wonderful the ultimate crib sheet is. It was one of the first items I put on my registry!

I checked out the Eurobath on Babies R Us website and it had excellent reviews which pretty much fell in line with what you said. I have now added it to my registry.

Do I have a tummy - well it all depends on what I wear. I definitely have one without clothes on and at times I wonder how I could get much bigger. Graham says I'm really not that big but I feel big - I guess it' just cause I'm not used to looking this way. If I wear traditional maternity clothes (empire waisted style) it really exaggerates my tummy and definitely makes me look pregnant. If I wear a normal t-shirt, be it maternity or not, I just kindof look like I've gained a bit of a beer belly! I am close to outgrowing one piece of maternity clothes I bought - it's a pair of khakis from motherhood which I've worn a ton but the elastic waist is very tight and while it was comfortable up until this point and it still does fit, it doesn't feel comfortable anymore - too much pressure on my stomach.

Well, I can't resist to add more comments on gear: I did NOT want to buy lots of gear, but as Kate has developed, she has definitely enjoyed more gear than I thought she would. Gradually, I have relented and added to our collection. As an errand runner, library goer, and shopper, I have enjoyed having a stroller. It's much easier for her to sleep through transitions from car to stroller, stroller to car, car to shopping carts, etc. I received a nice swing at a shower and did not plan on buying a bouncey seat or anything else. The bouncey seat is more play oriented as well as sleep oriented and it is portable, so we ended up buying the cheapest one ($25). The portable aspect was great for visiting our relatives. Just recently, she has graduated to the exersaucer, and although it is large, I actually believe she gets a lot out of the "exercise" part of it. It's strengthened her upper body a lot, and of course, she loves it. Thankfully, we did get this used from Josh's aunt & uncle. :-) For one thing, you do not lack in opinionated mommy friends.
