I realized today I don't have a good Beethoven CD. I know several of you out there are well educated in music and have quite the CD collections so I'd appreciate any recommendations you might have for a Beethoven CD - or set of CDs. It doesn't have to be any specific type of music (Symphonies, piano, etc) - I like it all. Thanks in advance.

Well now that we use only iTunes for our music, I haven't the foggiest notion what to recommend. We sold all of our CDs over a year ago to help raise money for our new house. (Yeah, that didn't get us very far monitarily speaking, but we did have less junk to move!)
I want you to know that I'm thinking about this one Kelley...I might not be able to recommend a specific CD, but rather some of my favorite Beethoven works. WOuld that still be helpful?
Absolutely. As I was browsing the selection at Amazon & BN I was a bit overwhelmed with all the options. I'm very familiar with his piano works and some of the more famous symphonies but not near as much with other orchestral works. If I had an idea of some good pieces then I could probably narrow it down to 1 or 2 CDs that had those pieces on it. Thanks so much. :-)
Favorite Beethoven works- for me it is hands down the symphonies. (Who woulda guessed? ;) Particularly the odd-numbered symphonies. #s 3, 5, 7, and 9 are wonderful. #s 2, 4, 6, and 8 are just "eh" to me. My absolute favorite is #7- specifically the second movement. Love love love.
His one and only Opera (Fidelio) was a flop, and for good reason. :P
I'm going to let my geek show here but your music recommendations reminded me of the Star Trek movies. According to Graham (my resident expert) the good ones are the even numbered ones and the odd numbered ones are just ok to awful.
Thanks for the information. I think I'll have to drop a hint to my valentine for a few CDs for next wed. :-)
