A few more things

After posting Greta's 10 month update I realized that I had forgotten a few more noteworthy items.

• Greta talks a little bit now. She says Dada consistently - although she also refers to me as Dada. Graham thinks it's her word for parent. At least once she's referred to Julie as Juju and Jack as Ack. Not sure if she was doing this intentionally but it was cute. She also has on occasion referred to the dogs in a name that sounds very much like theirs. Sometimes she will say bye.
  
• She now points, sometimes with her pointer finger, sometimes with her whole fist, and sometimes with her pinky.
• Greta also waves but does not do it regularly. You kind of have to drag it out of her.
• She loves to be sung to at any time. Her favorite song is Ba Ba Black Sheep.
• Indian food was deemed very tasty last week. However taco soup, that was on the spicy side, was not. Her poor little face turned red.
• When Greta is fond of something she "loves" on it by holding it up to her cheek, or laying her cheek on it as the case may be. Things she loves on often are: Momma & Daddy, the dogs, her sippy cup.
• Greta loves to make noises and have you mimic her or you make noises so she can mimic you. Noises she likes to make are: breathing heavily (like a hee, hee, hee), blowing raspberries, & making smacking noises.

10 Months

I haven't posted that much lately and as Greta is now 10 1/2 months old I felt an update was in order.

We'll start with my favorite thing, sleeping. Greta continues to be an excellent sleeper going 11 hours through the night and still taking 2 naps a day. She generally goes 3 to 4 hours between naps and sleeps for 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the day.

Greta has a love for all things food related. She has tried a lot within the past month, mainly due to the generosity of family members. Thanks to her Granny (Great-Grandmother Collins) she has tried cake (minus the icing) and punch. Uncle Jack presented her with a few small bites of his Neapolitan ice cream sandwich to which she said "Vanilla is good, strawberry is ok but chocolate rules!" She also sampled pizza and pronounced it yummy. Another favorite is cinnamon rolls (minus the icing). Greta is definitely a fan of bread.

Miss mobility has been cruising around everywhere. This past week she has gotten super adventurous and is really walking well on her own. She'll take anywhere between two and ten steps alone and is quite steady. Each day she seems to go farther but her preferred method of fast transportation is still crawling. She is speedy!

The nursery puzzle has finally been solved. Greta has eyes only for men. The past 3 weeks we've been able to get Greta to stay in nursery and nap, provided she is held by a man. After her nap she wakes up happily and stays that way until we arrive to pick her up.

No new teeth to report although I think she's working on one. She doesn't really show any signs of new teeth until they are in so it's hard for me to say for certain.

We had church directory pictures this past week and Greta loved it. I'll post some shots once we receive them. We're also getting 1 year pics sometime soon and hopefully our next encounter with the picture people will be more successful.

I leave you with some pics of Greta's favorite pastime - rearranging her clothes. More times than not if Greta is not with me she's in her room pulling clothes out of her drawers.

Groovin' Greta

A quick funny...

A few weeks ago I was driving to GA to visit my parents. Greta was happily snoozing in the backseat as I listened to various CDs. About halfway there she woke up and started crying. I was just about ready for a new CD so I picked out one of my favorites "Oh, Lady, Be Good!" It only took a few minutes of me singing along with Ella for Greta to quiet down and fall back asleep. Now I would say this was just a random occurrence but it happened again on the trip back.

By the way, I would absolutely love to own this CD.

Spinning Chickens

This sweet little girl is daughter of a co-worker. Poor thing is scared of those spinning chickens.

Just curious

Does anyone else make their own baby food? I buy very little pre-made baby food and make most everything....sweet potatoes, prunes, peaches, squash, peas, avocado, broccoli, bananas. I did one batch of apricots but it wasn't her favorite and kind of pricey to do. I don't make meat specifically for Greta but serve her what we have. Most recently she was introduced to barbecue and loved it. The only veggie I haven't had luck with was green beans. I never could get the consistency good and she really doesn't like them...she does however love broccoli.

I always buy cereals, crackers/puffs, dairy products (cheese & yogurt), & applesauce.
