Does anyone else make their own baby food? I buy very little pre-made baby food and make most everything....sweet potatoes, prunes, peaches, squash, peas, avocado, broccoli, bananas. I did one batch of apricots but it wasn't her favorite and kind of pricey to do. I don't make meat specifically for Greta but serve her what we have. Most recently she was introduced to barbecue and loved it. The only veggie I haven't had luck with was green beans. I never could get the consistency good and she really doesn't like them...she does however love broccoli.
I always buy cereals, crackers/puffs, dairy products (cheese & yogurt), & applesauce.

i made all of will's baby food (except for the week we were at the beach) and he loved it. i think it helped him move to "real" food easier because he was more used to the texture. now he refuses to eat anything pureed however, and just wants the real stuff :)
We made most of our own food at the Casa de Bailey. When she started needing meats but wasn't ready for chunks or shredded up meat, I made soup, blended it, then froze them in ice cubes.
At our stage, it's fun to see what foods she still carries over from baby likes. She still loves peaches, but doesn't care for avocado, which she ate TONS of as a baby. Weird.
Veggies: You could try peas (organic frozen), cook those puppies & see if she'll eat them as finger food.
I misread & thought you said she only eats ONE veg. . hence my comment about peas, which you already have one your list. My bad! I never got the green bean thing to work out, either. I was happy when she could eat bits of them as finger food.
One of my favorite things to do was to come up with tasty combinations. I used pear/peach & pear/plum or other variations of expensive & cheap if I wanted to include a different flavor put didn't want to buy 5 lbs of the fruit!
Liz, it's funny you should mention peas. We tried them a few weeks ago as a finger food but she wasn't really keen on it and her pincher grasp was still developing so she was having a hard time picking them up. Last night she was a bit fussy at dinner time (she had already eaten) so we put her in her booster seat to sit with the rest of us. We had cous cous with peas in it and gave her a bit of that. She loved it and started throwing the cous cous away and just eating the peas!
I have made most of our baby food. I buy Earth's Best when on sale just to have for "emergency" car stash or those times when you don't eat at home and don't know if baby can share your fare.
I tried the soup thing that Liz describes for Lydia. She hated it. I never tried it for Lauren. I basically waited until Lauren could eat our meat before worrying about that.
I buy all the other dairy and dry goods just like you.
Have you given her scrambled eggs or oatmeal yet?
Jen, how does the Earth's Best compare to Gerber or Beech Nut in flavor (or have you tasted it)? Greta is not super fond of either brand for store bought food so I rarely buy but would love to have some that she would eat because it is so much easier than carting around a cooler or if we're out longer than expected and can't get back home.
We have tried eggs..she absolutely loves those so I've made several angel food cakes to use up the egg whites. We haven't tried oatmeal. I hadn't thought about it but will give it a try!
Earth's Best does taste better, in my humble opinion!
Do you feed her baby cereal still? I did for awhile before switching to regular oatmeal because of the enriched blah blah blah. BUT, when you do switch, both Jen & I like the steel cut oats (or I use Scottish Oatmeal) b/c it's finer.
I made all of Emma's for several months. But she ate so much that I got tired of trying to keep up!! So then I bought Earth's Best when it was on sale, and that seemed to sit just fine with her, and man did I love just opening a jar and spooning it out!
