Freedom Weekend Aloft took place this weekend in Simpsonville not far from our house. We were treated to quite the show with balloons flying over. Scroll down for the excitement.

At first the balloons were just in the distance. We watched for a while but went in to feed Greta her dinner.

Afterwards, I heard strange sounds outside and went to investigate. The air was full of gorgeous balloons flying just overhead.

This balloonist came down for a landing and yelled for people to hop on his basket when he touched down. Graham handed Greta to me so he could run to help.

View of the balloon from our driveway. Also includes our very prolific
coreopsis. We planted it one year and it has come back each year from seed. This year it is huge and we'll have to trim it back as all my other perennials can't get any sun.

I loved this shot of the inside of the balloon.

I love that shot of the balloon also
from the inside. What was the flyer intending... Just to let everyone get a closer perspective? The only place that I have ever seen that many hot-air balloons at one time was in New Mexico.
From what I've heard they don't really have much control where they go in the air, they just can control their rate of ascent and descent. They said the street in our neighborhood was laid out like a runway for them so it was perfect for landing. I do imagine though that they enjoy landing in a neighborhood vs an empty field just for all the acclaim they get.
Freedom Weekend Aloft used to be in Anderson and they moved it to Simpsonville last year. I'm quite pleased they did as before the closest I ever saw the balloons was riding down I-85 going to Momma and Daddys.
Where my parents live in MX there's a huge international Hot Air Balloon Festival and they always get some incredible views right from their window -- but none quite as close as you got. What did he (the ballooner/ist) need help with?
He just needed guys to put their weight on the basket to keep him down so he wouldn't keep bouncing down the road.
Kelley, my aunt and uncle also live in Simpsonville, and we have come up and experienced Freedom Weekend Aloft as well. It was really entertaining!
