Here's the latest picture of the baby. She's weighing in at 4 lbs 7 oz based on the US. Her kidneys were completely normal and the placenta had moved way up to the fundus and is no longer near the bottom. I saw my regular doctor on Thurs and she didn't mention anything about my 3 hour GTT so I'm taking that as good news. Most of the U/S wasn't that interesting as she no longer fits very neatly on the monitor and it's really hard to make anything out. The doctor played around with the machine for a while and decided to do a few 3-D shots.
Question: Did anyone out there interview pediatricians before choosing one? My phone nurse suggested I do this.

I visited a few places in person, but I didn't interview the doctor. I also talked to a few people at our church. I got the vibe of the doctor's office and also talked to the receptionist -- who gave me some good information.
My kids' doctor goes to our church, as does Andy's doctor and our dentist. Sorry, I'm no help here. lol I would talk to people on your church and see who they like that is generally a good way to go.
The 3D shot is very cool! Glad to hear the good news about all the other stuff too =)
I did interview some pediatricians and found it helpful. Just going in and visiting the office gives you an idea of how the place runs and if the staff is friendly/helpful. I did visit doctors that were recommended by church friends as well.
I didn't interview pediatricians but asked for recommendations from like-minded mommas and LLL leaders. I had heard some horror stories about ill-informed pediatricians who make bad recommendations based on out-dated information-- particularly about breastfeeding, starting solids, and over-medicating and over-use of antibiotics. So I would say yes, either interview or ask some very trusted sources. I recommend LLL leaders since they stay up-to-date on breastfeeding recommendations and beginning solids and they try to keep up on the local pediatricians since so many parents depend on them for good recommendations. I asked another mom that I trusted first and also asked an LLL leader and got some of the same names given to me so that was reassuring to get similar referrals from two sources. :)
Personally- I felt weird and uncomfortable at the thought of interviewing pediatricians as I am easily intimidated, but if you are feeling up to it- I say go for it!
Oh! And whoever you go with, never be afraid to ask tons of questions about a diagnosis or prescription. You might be surprised at how willing pediatricians are to work with you and help you out! I've had situations with a sick kid where the ped. just does her job and prescribes something since she probably thinks that is what every parent wants; but I tend to ask, "Now is the prescription necessary for getting her better or are the alternative treatments? Will this pass on its own eventually? Is there a way to avoid the medication at this point?" That way I get any other possibilities for treatments and the pediatrician understands that we wish to avoid antibiotics whenever possible and stuff like that. It's been nice. :) So yeah- always ask questions! (This has been something I've had to get brave about and have learned along the way that the ped. usually seems pleasantly surprised that I'd like alternatives.)
How cute! I love the 3D shot! I'll let you know (which will then be too late) how I decide to go about finding a pediatrician. I do have some very decided opinions about certain childhood shots and etc. Therefore, I would personally desire to find someone likeminded, in certain areas.
I would be curious to know what shots you are talking about Katie...
Great 3D shot!!! Even though it is hard to tell exactly what she looks like, once she is born, you will definitely be able to look back and recognize her features. Her weight also seems good. Luke was 5.3 lbs at 32 weeks, so I am sure you are glad to have her in the 4lb. range - hopefully MUCH smaller baby. Luke goes to our family Dr. who was recommended to us by our friends at church.
Hey Kelley -
Have you guys picked names yet? Are you telling?
Man! That is a beautiful picture! I cannot believe that they can see it that way these days!
