- As my title suggests I have yet to see a "pregnancy glow". I thought all pregnant women had beautiful glowing skin once they got out of the first trimester. I'm still experencing the pregnancy breakouts and between you and me, it's getting really old. I'm continuing with my usual face care regimen and have to be careful when trying to combat breakouts as I have naturally very dry skin and some remedies can dry my skin out way too much.
- My hips don't lie - they really do hurt quite badly. I've gotten some relief from a pillow between my knees but there are days when nothing seems to help.
- Headaches - This has been an ongoing problem that I just cannot seem to conquer. I'd be really interested in any natural remedies anyone might know of since us pregnant people are so limited on our chemical options.
- Weight gain - or lack thereof. I never though I would be unhappy to not gain weight but I haven't gained hardly anything (lost 4 lbs to begin with, gained 3.2 since then but nothing in the past 3 to 4 weeks.) I'm worried the doctor will tell me to start eating more at my next appointment and this worries me as I'm eating as much as I can now and sometimes it makes me feel sick.

I don't remember glowing, so don't worry too much about that one. You might be more "glowy" in a few weeks. As for the hips, excercise and stretch them out as much as you can. Babyfit.com has great excercises to do. And Babycenter.com has a lot of great and helpful things too. I had headaches off and on, and I am afraid to say I just sucked it up because I was too afraid to take anything. As for the weight, do not worry about it. You will start gaining soon enough, and you will kick yourself later on if you try to force it now...Liz was tiny for a long while, and Kate is just fine. I doubt they will say you need to gain more.
Thanks for the advice. I have been doing a few stretches recommended in my books and those do seem to help when the pain gets really bad and bonus - I look strange doing them! I wasn't too worried about the weight until I read in my pregnancy books to call your doctor ASAP if you don't gain any weight 2 weeks in a row. I'm seeing my doctor on Tuesday so I figured that was ASAP enough for me.
Yeah, if your doctor says to gain more just smile and nod and continue to eat healthy and normal! Be very very grateful you aren't gaining! I didn't gain anything for the first several months of pregnancy with Claire and then my total weight gain by the end was 15lbs which my midwife said was fantastic (and rare). It was a very healthy and easy pregnancy so in my book (for me especially!) less is better!
I ran throughout my pregnancy which really helped with the regular aches and pains. I didn't experience nearly as many aches and pains with Claire as I did with Emily so it made a big difference. Any kind of exercise would probably help a lot!
Headaches... I have no idea. I never struggled with that but it sounds awful. :( I'm sorry!
I don't think I glowed either. I recommend some yoga or pilates workouts just to keep you limber and to help alleviate some of those aches and pains. Sometimes I think there is just nothing you can do. I definitely sleep with extra pillows during pregnancy --sleep without those would be nearly impossible for me. (Somehow, although barely, Ben and I made it through the first pregnancy on a double bed!!! I'm thankful we have graduated to the Queen size now - much roomier.)
I had an acupressure massage near the end of Lydia's pregnancy -- it was actually quite nice. I bet the chiropractor or massage therapist could help you out.
I never struggled with headaches. It can be frustrating how limited and careful you have to be with medicinces.
Oh - weight gain! Ha - I will not even believe it if your doc tells you you NEED to gain more. I think that will come as the pregnancy progresses. Just eat healthy and enjoy your smallness before those last couple of months!!!
Well, not to be redundant or anything, but I'll just add my voice to the chorus. I had a lot of hip/low back pain/even extending into my leg during my 2nd & 3rd trimesters. I started going to the chiropractor and he helped me out A TON! I couldn't believe how much better I felt after even a few adjustments. Josh and I also got a more supportive mattress topper which helps relieve pressure on your hips and shoulders. (It was tempur pedic like, not actually tempur pedic.) My doctor's were not ever worried about my weight gain. I had read in some books about doctor's being really involved/nosy/overbearing about how much weight patients were gaining, but that was not the case with me. From 24 wks to 28 wks I gained only one pound. My midwife looked at the chart and said, GREAT! I said, REALLY? I didn't feel that was so great, but apparently they weren't worried about it.
Oh, I have no idea about the skin. My skin did change drastically (much dryer) but I didn't develop any additional acne. I did get a red nose though -- we'll call it Rudolph nose. Yuck! I hated looking "drunk" or hot all day long!
A great pilates workout is called Pilates During Pregnancy by Niece Pecenka. You will be very tired, but with all that relaxin running through you, you won't be sore!! It's not the easiest workout, but it should help a lot. By the by, I gained 10-15 lbs by the time my second trimester rolled around, and I am trying to lose that weight right now still. Not to be redundant but DON'T try to over eat or worry.
